Daily Post Day 2 & OWOP Update

Sunset

I don’t particularly like the prompt for Daily Post Day 2. But as they state on the blog, the prompts are entirely optional.

It’s not that I don’t have someone in mind who needs more credit, but there are many names that run through my head when I think about “who needs more credit”.

At this time I would prefer not to name these people because this is more personal than I would feel comfortable stating on the Internet.

So there you have it, my response.

In other news–One Word, One Picture (OWOP) is starting out swell! Have had two participants come onboard, which may not sound like much to others, but it’s exciting for me. Also, Posterous makes it much easier to have others post with me on the same blog. I’ll need to figure out if I should keep each individual post as-is or consolidate each day’s pictures/words into one daily post. For now, I will just let the posts be. When more participants join on board, consolidated posts may be necessary (so not to flood RSS feeds/Twitter/inboxes), but right now I’m comfortable with the format.

One last thing: I am so grateful for the writing friends I have met in San Francisco. One friend has announced she will do JanNoWriMo, which is perfectly fine with me as that will motivate me to get back to working on my novels-in-progress. It’s always great to have a support network, especially in person when possible. Time for more write-ins when I return to the Bay on Wednesday!

NaNoWriMo: Day 7, a rainy day

I didn’t get much writing in until after midnight (again). Oops! But counting my total 1,703 words for Day 7 instead of Day 8. I think I will be writing more tomorrow, but we shall see. Total wordcount now is 11,918 words. I am tempted to look at last year’s (failed) NaNo novel and see where I stopped at. I just remember it was hard to spark up inspiration after some time. Plus, I remember last November was a lot busier than this year’s.

This week I have a lot of writing projects to do though. So, will need to be more careful with my time and not waste it on web surfing. Such a bad habit of mine! Must focus.

Today was an incredibly rainy day in San Francisco, but then the sun popped out near the end. My schedule was slightly mixed up with the hour setback. Longer nights are on the way…

NaNoWriMo: Day 5 & i live here: SF Opening

Yikes. I am writing this after midnight because the server was not responding earlier. Well, anyway, you get the point–this is about Day 5.

I did not write as much today; only made it to 1,083 words for today, but I’m still slightly ahead of the recommended total with 9,035 words. I was able to get myself writing for twenty minutes straight though, although I was slightly distracted a couple of times.

I still am not sure where I am going with my novel though. I know, no plot, no problem, right? It is just comforting to me to see that I am making more effort to write each day, even if everything doesn’t really make sense. First drafts are perfect for babble.

Today was a day of a lot of tasks, and then, to make the evening wonderful, I went to my friend Julie’s “i live here:SF” opening reception. I had participated in the project last October, and my, have the times changed! It was so delightful to see all of her prints up in the sprawling studio space and just meeting up with new and old friends. I was reminded of how I was inspired to get back to my writing again.

I will write a follow-up to my “i live here:SF” story when it is time to leave.

NaNoWriMo: Day 3 & Giants Parade

Let me just start off by saying: I am not a baseball fan. In general, I am not interested in spectator sports. Therefore, I never jumped onto the bandwagon when the San Francisco Giants got into the World Series and then won it all. I don’t even know who the players are. And really, I don’t want to act like I’m a “true fan” when it’s not what I’m really passionate about.

With that being said, today was the day of the Giants Victory Parade. Market Street was packed, and too many people were downtown. I briefly visited my previous employer to just say hello to a few students and staff members, and then I was on my way to my old neighborhood: North Beach.

There was supposed to be a write-in today with other NaNo-ers, but nobody showed up. Still, once I entered into the cafe, I was hit with a ton of nostalgia. I sat there click-clacking on my AlphaSmart; attempted to do some creativity exercises from a new book I bought, but I forgot to bring notebook paper. Next time!

Word count today has been less than the previous two days, but nonetheless I am still ahead of schedule. Currently at 6,022 total words. Tomorrow is another day!

Opportunities Sneaking In

San Francisco Fog: A Few Weeks Ago

This is how everything looked like in San Francisco a few weeks ago. And now? It’s bright, sunny, and warm. The signature fog has disappeared for now and we’ve received our Indian Summer, at least for this week or so.

Don’t worry, folks, the fog will be back.

Anyway, seems the only Fiverr gig that is working out for me right now is writing short stories. I was going to delete my gigs on there after my previous job was finished, but lo and behold, I received another order.

I suppose it’s a good thing, considering each client has different needs and it’s a way for me to exercise my creativity more. After all, I get to learn about new topics that I wouldn’t have ever explored on my own before. It’s good to get a wide repertoire out there.

And, in general, other opportunities are coming in in terms of income. Small yet still significant opportunities. I can’t complain; I quite like this flexible schedule I have these days.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to participate in a TweetChat about healthy food. It was the first time I had participated in a chat in a long time; gee, I feel old a bit. I remember back in middle school when I was all about chat rooms, but of course, nothing of substance ever came out of those interactions. Yesterday’s chat was more focused and the energy of everyone’s enthusiasm was contagious. I felt quite happy after the chat, even though I was more or less a passive participant in the topic.

Let’s see what the rest of the week has in store for me. But I’m enjoying every moment I can. I realize it’s all best to continue to remind myself to go with the flow.
