drink funny Hot Dog Days My San Francisco Chronicles observation

Spare me an ice cube?

After work today, I just remembered an amusing incident from yesterday’s shift:

I was working my last hour at the hot dog stand with a co-worker, and a guy approached our cart, looking like he was going to order something. After a minute, he approached my co-worker and asked, “Can I just have an ice cube?”

Co-worker’s response: “Err, okay…”

Man: “I am so thirsty but I don’t have enough money to buy a drink..”

Co-worker: “Oh, okay, sure dude.”

Reaches into the soda cart, gets an ice cube, and hands it to the guy.

Man: “Thanks dude, I’ll just suck on this.”

He walks away.

After that little episode, I chuckled a little to my co-worker. He smiled, shrugged, and said “Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.”

Busride Observations My San Francisco Chronicles rant transportation

Riding the F Line.

There are a few things that annoy me about public transportation. Although I love the diverse groups of people who board the buses/trains here, some of them just plain smell.

I know I ranted about that woman who was being royally rude about the smell of a Chinese woman beside her. The thing that really angered me about that situation was just how blatantly obvious the woman was being. Seriously, she could have removed herself from the situation.

But I digress.

Today I was sitting on the F Line, on my way back to my apartment from checking my mail downtown. At first the other passengers and I were kind of spread out because there weren’t many people on the train, but as we got closer to Fisherman’s Wharf, we all had to crowd into the seats more. I felt like I was suffocating between these two rather smelly people. I couldn’t really remove myself from the situation though since there were a lot of other people on the train at that point. Plus, I tried to distract my senses by focusing on finishing my book. That didn’t work too well though; still ended up feeling sick from the smell.

I know some people can’t afford to be super clean here in the city, but it’s rather irritating to have to smell the people on a crowded train/bus. The least they could do is put on some deodorant or do something to cover up the stench! Maybe go find a flower and rub it upon themselves. Anything is better than smelling human B.O.

Lindt Gold Bunny Promotion at Union Square.

I was working the hot dog stand on Saturday and had some time during the middle of the day to walk around Union Square on my lunch break. I noticed there was a guy walking around in a chef’s outfit, handing out samples of some sort. There was a huge promotion for Lindt Gold Bunny going on; they had a huge inflatable of the Gold Bunny on the Square, and they also had this cute Smart Cart (in the picture) parked in front of Macy’s.

I ended up taking two samples and tried them out. Pretty good chocolates, but I wasn’t sure if the Bunny was supposed to have a filling like the Truffles from Lindt. I think I was more fascinated with the Smart Car more than the chocolates/samples….I mean, look at how cute the car looks with the bunny ears! Quite a cute concept indeed.

My San Francisco Chronicles The Great Outdoors

Lands End Park in San Francisco

I wish I had brought my camera along with me today–went out walking with a new friend at Lands End Park in the Outer Richmond. The weather was gorgeous: sunny, a little breezy and chilly, but still perfect. There were so many great views at the park–just a lot of nature, a lot of the Pacific Coastline, etc. It made me appreciate San Francisco even more (not that I didn’t appreciate it before). A nice little corner of the city, tucked away and somewhat untouched by the metropolis feeling. I felt like I had traveled very far from the city…when in reality, I had only taken a busride across town.

Hoping to go back to the park soon again with camera in hand.

Fortune from the cookie:

Had dim sum today at Yank Sing in SOMA. The dim sum was pretty good–seemed less greasy and somewhat cleaner than what I would find in Chinatown. However, the place is rather pricey and caters more towards the affluent folk. I would probably not go to this dim sum if I were with my friends since I know we all prefer bargains at this point in our lives (meaning: we want/need to save money for rent/other expenses).

Anyway, I received this fortune from my fortune cookie today:

“You will soon be traveling to a distant land.”

It amused me since it is pretty accurate. I am planning on traveling overseas in a few months. How did the cookie know?
