2020: History & Milestones

I know I’m preaching to the choir, but 2020 has definitely been a year for all of mankind. Thinking back to January and February feels like a lifetime ago, as everything turned upside down starting in March. I’m honestly fatigued (like everyone else) by this pandemic, and am saddened by all the lives lost to it. The year may definitely go down in history books as a ‘lost’ year, and in so many ways, I am feeling that sentiment as I think about all the cancelled/postponed gatherings that had been planned with loved ones.

However, this year has personally been a milestone year for me. Despite all that has happened in the world, some beautiful things have sprouted in my life:

  • Started a full-time job – Admittedly, my first full-time corporate job in my career. Grateful to have been hired by the company pre-pandemic, as our transition to WFH was relatively seamless (we were all issued laptops upon hire, so it was just a matter of getting ourselves situated at home with the right gear). I have learned a lot about product marketing in this role, and I hope to learn more this next year.
  • Got engaged and got married – Ryan and I decided this year was the year to make both happen. He proposed to me on the first day of summer on one of our hikes. We decided to secure our marriage license shortly thereafter, too — the ceremony and reception will have to wait until after the pandemic. Signing our marriage license felt so simple and surreal, as we couldn’t have any other visitors with us.
  • Had a baby – This milestone has been the highlight of the whole year. Telling our families and friends about the news seemed to lighten everyone up: I’ve even had a few people tell me that this is the “best news of the year”. We welcomed our son into the world early last month and have been enjoying the parenting adventure thus far, lack of sleep and everything.

Glee!

It feels like it was just yesterday (yet also years ago) when we rang in 2020 and had all sorts of hopes and dreams for this magical-number year. I had set out at the start of the year to blog more often, and we see how that turned out (which is completely fine). Hopefully this update makes up for the lack of other updates throughout the year.

It’s hard to believe that 2021 is a little over a week away. I am feeling bittersweet about Christmas since normally I would be back in Virginia with my family, but most of us kids are not venturing home this year due to the pandemic. However, it will still be a nice holiday, and our son’s first Christmas, so many memories will still be made.

Next up, I’ll provide an update about my reading and crafting journeys from this year. Stay tuned…
