Busride Observations My San Francisco Chronicles observation rant transportation

Ignorant people on the bus.

Today I felt very irritated in the morning while I was riding on the bus. Around Columbus and Union, three men got on the bus and were being so very rude. From the way they dressed and acted, I could tell they were from a very rural area in the US, and it really infuriated me to hear them being so openly ignorant. They were making fun of a Hispanic woman talking on her cell phone, and kept making snide remarks about the minorities in San Francisco.

Um, excuse me? You want to talk about being racist/ignorant in a city where diversity rules? I was so seriously pissed off when I got off the bus, because it just angered me: why were these men here in San Francisco and badmouthing minorities? I felt like they were completely out-of-place and that they were just here to cause trouble. Really, when we were all on the bus, they were probably the minority on the bus…yet they insisted on being bigots and being rude about Chinese and Hispanics.

Yes, please, just go back to where you came from, because we don’t need people like you in San Francisco.

Mayan food in San Francisco

While walking around Noe Valley with my walking buddy today, we stumbled upon Mi Lindo Yucatan, a restaurant specializing in Mayan fare. Mayan food? It was our first time to hear of this kind of cuisine still being in existence; so we decided we would venture in and indulge our foodie-ness at the restaurant.

From what I can recall from the menu, it had a mix of fresh vegetable offerings and seafood combined with standard fare you would find in Mexico–tacos, burritos, fajitas, etc. We ordered two specials, one with beef chunks and vegetables, and the other was lobster enchiladas.

The food was very delicious and fresh; we both left the restaurant feeling satisfied, not stuffed-to-the-brim full. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone else, and hope to go back to the restaurant to try more of the food soon.

mistake Work Diaries

More mistakes at work.

I feel like every time I commit a stupid mistake at work, it’s one more point against me on my records. I know that everyone has their off days, that at times, a reprimand here and there is good, but gee whiz, I just feel so dumb when I realize the mistakes I make.

Today there were two instances of that at work; I felt like my mind just was not thinking clearly, and that sometimes I wonder if my boss thinks I lack a bit of common sense. Sometimes I really wonder about myself….

Penguino’s Gourtmet Yogurt

Found Penguino’s Gourmet Yogurt inside of the Metreon Building today while exploring the area with my siblings. The place intrigued me enough to lure me in to try some of their frozen yogurt.

I tried the soft-served frozen yogurt in the natural flavor with chocolate chip cookie dough on top. The other flavor option was mango, but I figured with the cookie dough topping that the mango would not go so well.

It was decent frozen yogurt, but I felt a little unfulfilled after eating it. I remember reading on Sparkpeople before that frozen yogurt is actually not too healthy for people. Sure, perhaps it’s lower in fat/calories than regular ice cream, but in terms of nutrients/probiotics/etc. it provides (as opposed to regular, non-frozen yogurt), the frozen yogurt doesn’t provide any of the bacteria cultures.

Gelato, my love.

Every time I eat gelato I feel happy; the sweet creamy texture, the density…Italian “ice cream” probably trumps all other kinds of ice cream out there.

So far in San Francisco, I have only tried gelato from Naia and from Yoogo Gelato. Naia is closer to my apartment, and they have the standard “American” flavors of chocolate, strawberry, et. al., with a few other interesting flavors. I haven’t been to this gelataria in awhile, so I don’t remember what all they do carry.

Today, my siblings and I went to Yoogo Gelato, which I had noticed many times before but never had the chance to venture in and check it out. I got word from an acquaintance that Yoogo Gelato sells some Asian/non-standard flavors, so my interest in the shop was piqued. I was reminded of the time that I ate gelato in Tokyo, and remembered how much I enjoyed eating the kurotaro (Black Sesame) and matcha (Green Tea) gelato flavors.

I was happy to see that Yoogo Gelato had both flavors; they had large waffle cones to hold the gelato in, and the Black Sesam definitely did not disappoint. My siblings got Chocolate Chip and Peanut Butter as their flavors; we all felt satisfied after our little sugar venture.

Perhaps I should start a quest on finding the best gelato in San Francisco as well; I guess I am becoming quite the foodie in my obsession with food, especially sweets.
