Maid Cafe in America?

I’m a bit turned off by the concept of this “maid cafe” in Culver City, CA. Not saying that I support the authentic maid cafes of Tokyo either, but after reading the article about Royal/T, it actually annoys me to understand that the owner had never stepped foot into a maid cafe in Japan, and that the cafe is decked out in the stereotypical/American view of what “Japan” is. It sounds like a place of real fusion, with tea, curry bowls, and other things included in the place. A real mish-mash, it seems.

The place has only been opened for a month now, so I wonder how well the business is doing. I personally think that if Ms. Susan Hancock (the owner) had wanted the place to be a “Japanese-style” maid cafe, she should have stuck with more Japanese pop culture items rather than make it into some weird fusion.

change life question

Question:

When do you know when to “move on”?

It does not matter what you are thinking about moving on from; just in general, when and how do you know?

When things stop feeling like they are so wonderful?

When you no longer feel happy and safe?

I am beginning to feel this way, which upsets me. I know nothing can stay the same ever, but I was hoping there would be some stability at some point.

I suppose I cannot make myself feel sad over this for too long though, since life goes on with or without my worries about change.

Life just happens.

"Take Out" feature film screening in NYC

Just read about this on Jennifer 8. Lee‘s blog: Apparently there’s a movie screening in NYC right now for “Take Out,” which is about a Chinese delivery man having to work to pay off immigrant smugglers. I’m curious to watch this, merely from the account that Lee wrote about in her blog. Some people mistaked the movie as a documentary, but it really isn’t; just a purely fictional film (although the situation/incident outlined is not fictional; it does occur, as I know from observations).

I’m curious to see if the film will be screening outside of NYC; will it make it to the big screen eventually? It’s an indies film, so I guess maybe there’s not such a big chance, but I’m hoping I am wrong.

My San Francisco Chronicles news weather

Fires in the region;

I didn’t even realize this until today, when I noticed how the skies had turned a little hazy over the past day. There have been fires sweeping across the northern part of the state, a few big ones being around Napa Valley and some in the Santa Clara area. It doesn’t help that during this time of the year, it does not rain here; it stays very dry. There’s sunshine all the time, but yes, a lot of dryness in the air causes for the fires to occur.

Hot Dog Days My San Francisco Chronicles question weather Work Diaries

Fog Rolls On In.

Well, the warm temperatures are gone from the city as of today: when I woke up, there was fog (typical of San Francisco), and the temperatures were chillier, around 50 degrees in the morning. The afternoon did not seem to change much, staying around upper 50s/lower 60s.

This type of weather seemed to keep the crowds in today since the carts were all very slow with business; I actually only worked 3 hours today since the second vendor had already come in at noon and we definitely did not need two vendors at the cart. We made measly tips as well.

This got me wondering: What is the “perfect hot dog weather”? When do people feel the most in the mood to eat a hot dog? The warmer temperatures did not seem to draw the crowds in, at least not to the hot dogs; people more so ordered drinks or the soft frozen lemonade. The cooler temperatures do not bring in the customers as much as we’d like, either. So I don’t understand–when is the best time (weather-wise) to have a hot dog?
