Paths in life.

There isn’t much to say for today. Just lately I have been wondering about what is in store for me. Most people leave school and believe that after college there is a set path for them. But of course, in reality, that is rarely the case. Most end up going into professions completely un-related to what they earned their degree in. That’s just how life goes.

Unfortunately I have been thinking about embarking on that set path, and over the past few months, I realize that maybe that’s just not the right mindset. I should be open to other fields, other areas…and just go with the flow. It’s hard to say what is best for me, though. So many paths lie ahead in me and I feel I can only choose one. Will these paths one day converge into one somehow? I guess only time will really tell.

My San Francisco Chronicles The Great Outdoors

Lands End Park in San Francisco

I wish I had brought my camera along with me today–went out walking with a new friend at Lands End Park in the Outer Richmond. The weather was gorgeous: sunny, a little breezy and chilly, but still perfect. There were so many great views at the park–just a lot of nature, a lot of the Pacific Coastline, etc. It made me appreciate San Francisco even more (not that I didn’t appreciate it before). A nice little corner of the city, tucked away and somewhat untouched by the metropolis feeling. I felt like I had traveled very far from the city…when in reality, I had only taken a busride across town.

Hoping to go back to the park soon again with camera in hand.

#amreading Thought of the Moment

Donny Deutsch and Change.

I am currently reading Donny Deutsch’s book “Often Wrong, Never in Doubt: Unleash the Business Rebel Within.” I have to say, even after only reading one-fourth of the book, I believe the man has become my hero. Reading his book is not like reading any other kind of nonfiction; it’s very colloquial, casual, and easy to follow. Part of it is an autobiography, but there are lessons strewn throughout the pages for whoever may be reading.

I particularly found this passage striking since it pretty much speaks to me at this point in time:

“Change doesn’t happen organically; it doesn’t happen by itself. People wait for change like they’re waiting for a bus. People want things to happen, they want to get farther down the road, but that bus ain’t coming; it’s only when they go out and flag a ride that they get where they want to go” (Page 25).

It is very true that people should go out there and seize the day–after all, what good is waiting around for? If one only sits and waits, life will just pass by. It makes so much sense; I know I have heard “Carpe diem” a lot, and I know that sometimes sitting around for change is just not a great thing at all. I find that one of my biggest pet peeves is waiting around; I can be very patient, but many times I am pretty impatient and restless. I want movement in whatever I do, I want change to happen. So if I want change so badly, why don’t I just go out and make it happen? Nothing will happen if I just sit here and wonder about “what if.”

I guess I feel that certain things are supposedly holding me back, but I come to realize that the only thing really holding me back is my fear of failure, of shame in front of my loved ones. But if I just sit here and do nothing, then pretty much it’s a self-prophecy. Better to go out there, make a fool of myself, and know that I did the best that I could than do nothing.

Metaphor.

Nobody wants the piece of fruit that has fallen from the branch.

Everybody wants the fruit that is still intact on the branch, ripe and ready to be plucked.

Japan politics President

Japan has a city named Obama.

Like I previously stated, I am not one to really talk much about politics, but since it’s been on the news so much lately (due to the Primaries), thought I might share this interesting tidbit:

Apparently, Japan has a city named “Obama”. It makes sense, since “Obama” is a Japanese-sounding name anyway (I also realize it sounds Middle-Eastern, too; in fact, I think that’s the origin of Obama’s surname). Anyway, I read on Yahoo! about how the city in Japan is hoping for Obama to win the U.S. Presidency so they can promote more tourism to their city. Amusing to read that none of the people living in Obama are eligible to vote in the U.S. Presidency (I assume they are all Japanese citizens there).

I guess we shall see if their wishes will come true? I had never heard of this city before, but now I may consider visiting it when I go to Japan next time.
