My San Francisco Chronicles photography reflection The Great Outdoors

Sunset yesterday…

Through my windows last night, I could see this pink glow after the sunset, so I looked out and sure enough, the sky was pink and gorgeous. I could not help but feel amazed at the beauty of nature, even living here in the city.

KDFC World Tour 2008

Lately I have been listening to the local classical radio station, KDFC. This week seems to be the “World Tour 2008”, where they pay three pieces either from or about a certain country/landmark/area. The program has been fun to listen to, since they include sounds of landing at an airport or arriving by sea. It certainly does make me want to travel again….

Anyway, while they run this program during the day, there are three chances to call in and name three locations to win a dinner and enter to get a chance to win airfare to the destination of the winner’s choice–anywhere in the world. I had been trying to call in yesterday and today, but I kept getting the busy signal. I would love to win the airfare to travel wherever I want to go…I would really like to go to Brazil or Wales or Germany right now to meet some friends.

I guess there’s still a chance over the next couple of days to call in since this program lasts until Friday. How do I get through to become the twelfth caller though….

Psychological Allergies.

My friend introduced this term/phrase to me a couple of months ago: “psychological allergies.” Basically, these are “allergies” we have against certain foods for psychological reasons, i.e., the taste of certain foods makes us feel sick, etc. We are not really allergic–just have an aversion against the food.

Recently, I have developed a psychological allergy against oranges. Why? I received too many oranges during Chinese New Year and became sick of eating them day in, day out. I had way too many and had to give away some oranges to friends and homeless people. Granted, I can still eat oranges, but I feel sick when I eat them now. Something about the texture makes me feel queasy these days.

ABCs (American-Born Chinese)

It’s almost always like this:

While being introduced to another Chinese person…

Chinese person: Oh, who are you?
Parents’ friends: Oh, she’s my friend’s daughter. She was born here [in the United States].
Chinese person: Oh, I see, you’re one of those American-Born Chinese.
Me: Uh..yeah? (Thinks to self “You got a problem with that?”)

I don’t like how the fact that I was born here in the US is always made into such a big deal when I’m with relatives or family friends. Can’t they just get over the fact and let us ABCs be?

From the teabag:

“Advertising may be described as the science of arresting the human intelligence long enough to get money from it.”– Unknown

Funny how I found this on my teabag this morning; it must be fate for a teabag to find its way to someone who studied marketing/advertising.
